His pet cat Anubis, a constant companion, by some potent charm evolved from the papyrus, is somehow transformed into Athothis, a chief physician, astrologer of an early period in Egyptian history. Athothis, in gratitude for his release from physical death, shows Dr. Androcydes the "true inwardness" of modern medicine, comparting our modern practices...with those of his age."
