New York: Tandy-Thomas Company, 1905. Memorial Edition, New and Enlarged. Numbered and limited 191/1000. Three-quarter bound morocco (goat) leather, ORIGINALLY dark green, but due to sun exposure, now a mostly uniform tan to spines; still dark green to front and back of boards/corners, with a bit of bleed-through. Ruled in gilt with gold-veined marbling to boards and endpapers, front and rear. Gilt lettering to spines. Top edges gilt, fore-edges and tails untrimmed, some uncut. Books measure 9.25 in. x 6.25 in. (23.495 cm. x 15.875 cm.). Illustrated with (tissue-guarded) portraits, a number of which are rarely-published depictions of Lincoln) engravings, drawings, photogravures, facsimiles of maps, & documents (some fold-out). Light shelf-rubbing to top edges and corners, and only two of the volumes -- I and III, show a bit of fraying from a tight shelf. (The others appear hardly, if ever used). Hinges great, bindings all tight. A lovely set that has well-weathered its 100+ years of shelf-life, despite the ravages of the sun. Very Good. Item #71936
