IA very old map of the Roman Empire and its emperors with an inset genealogical chart with names of Roman emperors, was issued both uncolored and colored; this one individually colored. Watermarks, foldlines, and plate lines visible. Map paper was folded under on the back in order to accomodate frame. (Photos show front, rear, text to rear, texture of paper, watermarks, etc.). Flemish geographer, cartographer, engraver, antiques dealer and bookseller Abraham Ortelius (1527-1598) was initially inspired and influenced by Mercator and in 1570 published a 70-map Atlas called Theatrum Orbis Terrarum (Theater of The World), called the first modern atlas. The map/chart was issued and the number of languages, this one in Latin. Several cartouches.
