During the last years of his life, Beethoven concentrated almost exclusively on the composition of string quartetes, beginning with the three commissioned by Prince Galitzin (Opp. 127, 130, 132, written in 1824, 1825-26, 1825, respectively). The composition of Op. 132 was interrupted by an illness from which Beethoven recovered in May, 1825, at the resrot town of Baden, near Vienna.
