Ella Rhoads Higginson (1862-1940) was an award-winning novelist, poet and essayist, primarily writing in and about the Pacific Northwest of the United States. Though Oregon-raised, Higginson became the first Poet-Laureate of Washington State. She traveled to Alaska for four summers as part of her research for this, her Alaska book.
