Preface by the author Amelia Ann Blanford (June 7, 1831 - April 15, 1892), an English novelist, traveler and amateur Egyptologist. Chapters gathered here are drawn from courses of lectures on ancient Egyptian subjects she delivered in the U.S., with plentiful additions and notes. The photographs of portraits and buried cities of Egypt were allowed by special permission of W.M.F. Petrie, the Chief Photographer for many years of the Egyptian Exploration Fund (E.E.F.), later to become E.E.S. (Society).
