Gilt edges. Light rubbing to extremities. Three inch crescent-shaped dent to front board. Shelf bumps and one tear to beveled edges of rear board. Publisher's slip laid in, measuring 4.5 in. x 6 in., stating: "Dedicated by Special Permission to Her Majesty Queen Victoria. Sights and Scenes in Ireland being specially prepared for Subscription, is not obtainable through the general Booksellers." Nearly one hundred full-page black and white photographs and etchings of beautiful Ireland, each with a caption paragraph detailing the photograph. from Seller: Henry Sotheran Ltd, London, United Kingdom Association Member: ABA ILAB PBFA: Very rare first edition of an important Irish photobook. The publisher in the present volume endeavoured to give some pictorial representation of the most characteristic features to be found in Ireland. Many photographs have been taken specially for this work, with a large number taken by the well known photographers of their day throughout the country: Harrison of Bray, Robinson of Dublin, Payne Jennings of Ashtead, White of Clonskeagh, Clarendon of Kingstown, Poole of Waterford, Mahony of Cappoquin, Guy & Co., of Limerick and Cork, York of Notting Hill, Hunter of Armagh, Lee of Portrush, Ayton of Londonderry, and Lawrence of Dublin. - A little printed slip at the beginning of the volume explains the rarity: 'Sights and Scenes in Ireland, being specially prepared for Subscription, is not obtainable through the general Booksellers' (still true). Not in the National Library of Ireland.
