Two octavo advertisements for the series from 1972 and 1976, respectively, and 1 order form. Printed at Liam Miller's Dolmen Press. Very good. Item #85864

The first advertisement for the series explains the mission and purpose of the Press: "The Cadenus Press has been established to make available the works of lesser-known Irish writers, particularly those writing in English during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries...together, [these works] will provide an unparalleled insight into the background against which Swift's Irish work was written." (Carpenter, "Advertisement for 'Irish Writings...'")

The series catered to a general, rather than an academic, audience. It presented 17th and 18th century works using the printing techniques of the period, namely a handpress and handmade laid paper. Liam Miller, a former architect and founder of the Dolmen Press, expertly designed the layout and typography of each book. The series exhibits the craftsmanship of Irish fine press printing at the time.
